Logitech MX Mechanical

check_circle Very Good

Best For

  • Digital creators seeking a premium typing experience
  • Professionals needing a quiet yet tactile keyboard
  • Users valuing long battery life with low-profile switches

Consider Carefully

  • Users requiring a wired connection
  • Those sensitive to fingerprints on keycaps
  • Individuals preferring standard wrist rests

The Bottom Line

The Logitech MX Mechanical is a wireless productivity keyboard built around low-profile tactile switches that deliver satisfying feedback without the noise that disrupts open offices. Its aluminum plate and recycled-plastic keycaps give it a solid, premium feel, though the glossy finish picks up fingerprints quickly. Battery life reaches up to 15 days on a full charge, and the two-tone silver-and-gray design fits neatly into modern desk setups. The main trade-off is the lack of wired mode, which limits its appeal for users who need a cable fallback.

Performance Breakdown

In-Depth Analysis

Typing Experience 88

Unanimous consensus · 17 sources

Across 17 sources, the verdict is nearly unanimous: this is one of the better low-profile mechanical typing experiences you can buy for an office setting.

Key Takeaway

If you type for a living in a shared space, this delivers. If you need gaming-grade actuation or high-accuracy input, look elsewhere.

In-Depth Analysis

Typing Experience

Unanimous consensus · 17 sources
88 / 100

Eight sources independently flagged the quiet, responsive feel as the standout trait, and seven specifically called it out for office use. The low-profile Brown switches do real work here, delivering tactile feedback without the clatter that gets you dirty looks in open-plan offices. Dealibrium called it 'excellent and satisfying,' trevortan.com went with 'superb and pleasant,' and neither felt like a stretch. The one honest caveat: Corey Staden raised accuracy concerns, and dealibrium confirmed it's not built for gaming. If your hands live on spreadsheets and documents, this keyboard was designed for you. If you're chasing fast-paced gaming inputs, it wasn't.

Battery Life 87

Unanimous consensus · 9 sources

Five sources agree on 15-plus days of battery life, USB-C charging, and the ability to charge while typing. No meaningful dissent across 9 sources.

Key Takeaway

Battery life is a non-issue. Charge it every couple of weeks over USB-C and forget about it.

In-Depth Analysis

Battery Life

Unanimous consensus · 9 sources
87 / 100

Battery life is the closest thing to a clean win in this review set. PCMag put the number at 15 days on a full charge, and four other sources backed that up. USB-C charging is confirmed by four sources, which matters because it means one less proprietary cable to track down. Thetechnovore.com noted you can charge while typing, so there's no forced downtime. Nine sources covered this aspect and none raised a complaint. For a wireless keyboard, that's a strong result.

Build Quality & Design 84

Strong consensus · 20 sources

The aluminum base and sleek profile earn consistent praise, but ABS keycaps that shine over time and a price that 3 sources called hard to justify keep this from being a clean win.

Key Takeaway

Buy it for the aluminum build and compact design. Accept that the keycaps will show wear, and factor the premium price into your expectations.

In-Depth Analysis

Build Quality & Design

Strong consensus · 20 sources
84 / 100

Twenty sources weighed in, and the split is real. The aluminum top case and compact footprint land well across the board, with ShortCircuit, dealibrium, and SmartDeploy all pointing to build quality as a genuine strength. Four sources specifically praised the space-saving form factor. But basic-tutorials.com, thetechnovore.com, and dealibrium all flagged the ABS keycaps as a problem: they smudge easily and will develop shine with regular use, which is a visible flaw on a keyboard at this price. Tomsguide.com also noted the absence of a NumLock indicator, and basic-tutorials.com called out wobbly free-standing keys. The color options are conservative to the point of being forgettable. You're paying a premium for the aluminum and the Logitech badge, and the keycaps undercut that story.

Where Reviewers Disagree

The aluminum base reads as premium, but ABS keycaps that smudge and shine over time undercut the build quality story at this price point.

Wireless Connectivity 84

Strong consensus · 7 sources

Multi-device switching via Bolt USB receiver and Bluetooth works well across 7 sources, but 3 of those same sources flag the lack of any wired mode as a real gap.

Key Takeaway

If you work across multiple devices and want clean wireless switching, this delivers. If you ever need a wired fallback, this keyboard has none.

In-Depth Analysis

Wireless Connectivity

Strong consensus · 7 sources
84 / 100

The multi-device story is strong. Three sources confirmed seamless three-device pairing, and tomshardware.com specifically called out Logi Flow as a standout feature for people who move between machines. Dealibrium described the switching as 'flawless.' But the no-wired-mode limitation is a genuine constraint, not a minor footnote. Tomshardware.com, tomsguide.com, and trevortan.com all flagged it independently. If your Bluetooth drops, or your USB receiver gets lost, you have no fallback. For a keyboard at this price, that's a choice Logitech made deliberately, and it will matter to some buyers more than others.

Where Reviewers Disagree

Multi-device pairing is genuinely smooth, but 3 sources independently noted there's no wired mode at all, which is a meaningful omission for a keyboard at this price.

Switch Options 80

Strong consensus · 7 sources

Six of 7 sources confirm three switch types across six models, but the switches aren't hot-swappable and layout options are limited.

Key Takeaway

Pick your switch type carefully before buying. Three options exist, but none are hot-swappable, so you're locked in at purchase.

In-Depth Analysis

Switch Options

Strong consensus · 7 sources
80 / 100

Tomsguide.com laid it out cleanly: clicky, tactile, and linear options across six total models. PCMag confirmed the same. That's a reasonable selection for a productivity keyboard. Basic-tutorials.com and tomshardware.com both noted the keycap removal tool makes accessing the switches easy enough. The hard stop is that dealibrium confirmed the switches are not hot-swappable, so whatever you buy is what you're committed to. If you pick the wrong switch feel, there's no fix short of buying a different model. For a keyboard at this price, that's a limitation worth knowing before you order.

Where Reviewers Disagree

Three switch types sounds flexible, but non-hot-swappable switches mean your choice at checkout is permanent. Try before you buy if you can.

Backlighting 80

Unanimous consensus · 5 sources

Five sources cover backlighting and the consensus is functional: it works well in low light, adapts to ambient conditions, and hibernates automatically to protect battery.

Key Takeaway

The backlight is practical and battery-conscious. If you want per-key RGB or deep lighting customization, this isn't the keyboard for it.

In-Depth Analysis

Backlighting

Unanimous consensus · 5 sources
80 / 100

No fireworks here, but no complaints either. Tomsguide.com confirmed fully backlit keys, tomshardware.com noted the ambient light adjustment, and trevortan.com and sypnotix.com both called out the automatic hibernation feature as a smart battery-saving touch. Basic-tutorials.com and tomsguide.com agreed it performs well for low-light typing. This isn't RGB enthusiast territory. It's a clean, practical backlight implementation that does what office users need without burning through battery.

Software & Customization 70

Divided consensus · 11 sources

Logi Options+ gets called 'powerful' by some sources and 'outdated' by others. The key remapping limitations are the most consistent complaint across 11 sources.

Key Takeaway

If you want basic customization and cross-platform shortcuts, Options+ covers it. If you need full key remapping or expect polished software, this will frustrate you.

In-Depth Analysis

Software & Customization

Divided consensus · 11 sources
70 / 100

This is the aspect where the MX Mechanical takes its clearest hit. Tomshardware.com and trevortan.com both confirmed you can't remap every key, which is a notable constraint for a keyboard marketed at power users. Tomsguide.com added that backlight customization is also limited. On the other side, tomshardware.com and dealibrium praised Logi Options+ as powerful, and pcmag.com and sypnotix.com highlighted solid cross-platform support for Windows and macOS. The sharpest criticism came from r/LogitechG and ShortCircuit, who flagged outdated software support as an ongoing issue. Basic-tutorials.com noted the dual-legend keycaps for OS compatibility, which is a practical touch. The software story is genuinely split: capable enough for most, frustrating for anyone who wants full control.

Where Reviewers Disagree

Tomshardware.com and dealibrium call the software powerful, while r/LogitechG and ShortCircuit flag outdated support and limited remapping as real problems. Both are right, depending on what you need.

Ergonomics & Comfort 66

Divided consensus · 8 sources

The low-profile design is comfortable for many users, but a single fixed tilt angle and no wrist rest compatibility are real limitations that 3 sources flagged independently.

Key Takeaway

If you're comfortable with a flat or near-flat typing angle, this works well. If you need adjustable tilt or a wrist rest, the MX Mechanical will fight you.

In-Depth Analysis

Ergonomics & Comfort

Divided consensus · 8 sources
66 / 100

Comfort is where the MX Mechanical's design choices start to cost it. Trevortan.com confirmed only one tilt angle is available, thetechnovore.com echoed that the fixed stands limit adjustability, and tomshardware.com noted the low-profile build is incompatible with standard wrist rests. Dealibrium flagged the missing wrist rest as a separate omission. For users who already have a preferred typing angle, this may not matter. For anyone who needs to dial in their setup precisely, the lack of adjustability is a genuine problem. ShortCircuit and Box.co.uk still called it comfortable overall, so the base experience is fine. It's the customization of that experience that's missing.

Where Reviewers Disagree

The low-profile design reads as ergonomic, but a single fixed tilt angle and incompatibility with standard wrist rests limit how much you can actually customize the feel.

Our Verdict

The Logitech MX Mechanical earns its 77/100 with quiet tactile switches, a solid aluminum build, and 15-day battery life that make it a reliable daily driver for office professionals. The lack of wired mode is a real limitation, and the glossy keycaps show fingerprints faster than you'd like. For wireless-first users who type a lot and want mechanical feel without disturbing colleagues, this is a strong buy.

Nice keyboard with a few flaws

Res January 16, 2024
I selected the MX Mechanical full size based on already having the MX Master 3S Mouse which I love. I like the bolt receiver and the fact that it works so well. I liked having my mouse connected via bluetooth however when I switched to having a work laptop I needed a docking station and KVM so I went back to the bolt receiver. The MX Mechanical keyboard is very nice with some pros and cons. I have the tactile version. I like the smooth keypress feel however the keypress registers very high at the top of the keypress so at first I was getting a lot of double keystrokes until I learned to be a bit more gentle with the keys. Another pro is that the keycap is not recessed into the keyboard and the way the switch is setup there is a space between the board and the keycap; this means that crumbs that sneak into the keyboard can be cleaned out easily and won’t get trapped inside. The backlight is very nice and even and doesn’t spill out excessively from the sides of the keys. There are a few cons. There is no space between the top number row and the function keys, or between each of the four groups of function keys, which means I can’t press the function keys by feel. By default, the function key is locked on, which means when you press a function key, you are actually pressing it’s alternate function like volume up or down, which is backwards to me (why do all new laptops do that too?). Fortunately, with regards to the function key, there is a way to reverse the function lock by pressing FN+ESC so that pressing a function key does not activate its alternate function by default. The other con is that there is no print screen button! I find this very annoying. Instead, you must press FN+F7 (or just F7 if you don’t reverse the function lock…). Perhaps there is a way to fix this in Logi Options, but I shouldn’t have to figure that out on a $160 keyboard, sorry Logitech. Also, for some reason, I had an issue with the Num Lock key and I think it had to do with the FN key there too. Very annoying. For what is to be considered a “Full-size” keyboard, this should have no need for a function key, or at least it should not for Num lock and Print screen.Otherwise, the keyboard is great and I am very happy with, quirks aside. It works great with my KVM and it works fine on my work laptop which does not have (or the ability to have) Logi Options installed.

Never thought I'd love a keyboard so much...

Yo_Paisan January 31, 2026
It’s taking a little getting used to the slightly different arrangement of some keys but man… overall, this keyboard KICKS TAIL!!! I love how it lights up, I’m always working in low light or the dark and my eyes aren’t what they used to be so I just can’t tell you how much of a difference it makes. I also feel like the key symbols won’t/can’t wear out because they’re backlit. Typical keyboards have letter and words wear off over time, but I don’t see how that’s possible with this keyboard. It’s not a “gamer keyboard” it’s just a great basic keyboard with all the functions you need. Keystrokes feel amazing! Not sure how to describe but when you’re typing it just feels really nice. A real quality built product and worth every penny. I’m considering buying another before they don’t make them anymore… LOL Oh, the battery lasts forever on this thing too. You can turn it OFF when you’re done for the day and you can set the keyboard to pair/work with multiple computers (even have keys configured differently if you like). The backlight shuts off when you remove your hands from the keyboard or stop typing for about 5 seconds, but its got this really cool “motion detection” feature that once you put your hands over the keys again or start typing it lights right back up! I’m telling you if you’re in the market for a new BLUETOOTH keyboard and are willing to pay a little more for a NICE one… this is the board to have!!! I really love it. I’ll give you the 1 thing I didn’t like about it as I began using it… The FUNCTION ROW of keys has no space above the NUMBERS or Number pad, etc. So it’s super easy to hit the wrong keys sometimes. I’ll often go to use the “home” key and end up hitting the key to switch between machines, or the biggest one is the “lock” key the farthest top right key over the number pad’s “minus/dash” key. I often go to hit the “minus/dash” key and end up locking my windows (having to sign in again). HOWEVER, using the Logitech software that is used to configure the keyboard I was able to just disable that lock key. I don’t need a KEY for that anyway. When I want to lock my Windows session (log out) without shutting down, I’ll just do it the normal way with my mouse (Start > Power > Lock). No big, been doing that forever anyway. Anyway, this keyboard is awesome. Especially, once you get used to it. Most times I get a new keyboard and have to get used to the key arrangements and different spacing anyway. Might as well do it with a great keyboard. 😊👍🏻 P.S. I have always been a Microsoft keyboard/mouse kinda guy. I didn’t think much of Logitech until I got the MX Master 2 Mouse, which is now also my favorite ever. This keyboard goes with that mouse it’s sold in bundles they’re of the same product set.

Nostalgic Tactile Feel with Modern Wireless Flexibility

MrJoe July 8, 2025
The Logitech MX Mechanical (Clicky) delivers the perfect blend of old-school tactile feedback and modern convenience. The clicky switches are just right - satisfying without being obnoxiously loud - and the low-profile design is surprisingly comfortable for long typing sessions.I’ve been using it with a MacBook Pro, and the multi-device switching works flawlessly. Pairing across three systems is seamless, and switching is as simple as tapping a function key. It’s also great to see USB-C charging - even with a lower-output charger, it tops off fairly quickly. The aluminum top plate adds a premium touch, even though the body is mostly plastic. It feels sturdy, well-weighted, and nicely textured overall. I do like the smart backlighting, though I usually keep it off to preserve battery life. Speaking of which, battery life is decent - but if you’re on your computer all day, you’ll want to be in the habit of turning it off after use.Overall, I give this keyboard 5 stars. It’s ideal for typists or anyone who misses the tactile feel of classic mechanical keyboards, but wants something that’s slim, wireless, and versatile enough for modern workflows.

High end keyboard that doesn’t hold back on the features.

Amazon Customer May 7, 2023
Typing: great typing experience, good quality key caps and switches. The red switches aren’t too loud either.Features: the Logitech software offers lots of customizability. Can connect to 3 devices at once. Great battery life. Keyboard illuminates when you put your hand close to it.Conclusion: The only downside is the price, if you have the money for it, it’s a great choice that should last a long time.

I'm loving this keyboard!

Diego Garzon 2023-01-14
My crappy picture doesn’t make it justice… this is a fantastic keyboard! The tactile keys feel amazing to type on and the Brown switches ensure it’s not too loud. Great colour combination and although is made of many plastic components, it is very sturdy. The low profile is great for ergonomics, and the logitech functionality for pairing and switching devices is awesome. Plus made of 70% recycled materials is a bonus. It’s expensive yea.. but imo is worth the money so far. I love it!

Best Mechanical Keyboard so far

Benny Lim 2024-03-21
Few things I like about it:1. Easy connectivity to switch between devices2. Minimalistic Design3. Good battery life.4. Personally, I like the feel of the clicky switches.Switches are ultimately a preference choice. Personally, I tried all three of the switches and these are my recommendationIf I were to rank them based on typing feel, it would be Clicky -> Linear -> Tactile Quiet.Clicky: Best typing feel of them all, can accurately feel that I have pressed the button, noise is a bit loud so make sure to check with people around you before you decide to purchase it.Linear: Feels like a normal keyboard, instead of a mechanical one. However, it is very smooth and nice to type as well, noise is the smallest.Tactile Quiet: The weirdest feeling out of them all, this is supposed to be a compromise between the two so maybe that’s why it feels weird, it’s not mechanical enough that you get that satisfying feel and noise every time you press a key. So sometimes I am not sure if I have pressed it. On the other hand, it is not smooth enough to have a normal keyboard feel.

Lovely Product - but US layout not clear in product description

Product is excellent, but be aware this is a US layout keyboard. If you want a UK layout (or European) you need to look for this specifically on Amazon.

Best office keyboard to date

Guy 2023-01-08
This keyboard is pretty amazing. I own a HHKB, and a Pok3r. I build and customize my own keyboards. I bought this mainly because of the Logitech Flow feature. But first, I wanted to talk about the keyboard itself and why I think this is the best office keyboard to date. The build quality is amazing. It’s sturdy, and the internals are very tight, which means, no rattling, no added noise or reverbiation. As a result, this is a very quiet mechanical keyboard (I can only speak for the brown switch version). The keycaps are made out of recycled plastic, but they don’t feel cheap. They are quite smooth and easy to type with. The typing experience is very consistent and smooth (see type test photo). My typing speed is consistent with my other keyboards, but for me, it’s definitely feels much better to type with tactile silent switches compared to my other keyboards.Even though this keyboard is a low profile keyboard, there are flip up feet at the bottom of the keyboard to lift it up a little more to get a better angle if that’s what you prefer. The lights are nice, but what makes this keyboard really stand out is when it doesn’t use the lights at all. Without the backlights on, this keyboard can do 10 months on 1 charge, which is completely unheard of for a mechanical full size wireless keyboard. I’ve had this keyboard for a couple of days on the whole time, and by now, my other wireless 60% would have died and required a recharge. There is only one issue with this keyboard which is customization. For Macros, only some of the keys (F Keys and Cursor Targeting Group) can be customized vs what I am used to, which is being able to customize every single key. For customizing the physical look itself such as changing the switches or the keycaps, this keyboard cannot be customized like that. The spacebar doesn’t use standard stabilizer stem widths. You can replace every key cap except for the spacebar. You also cannot change the switches unless you know some soldering which is not recommended. As for the reason why I bough the keyboard. I absolutely love it! The logitech flow option allows me to move from my multiple computer setups with only one keyboard and mouse. I often multitask, I have a computer running 24/7 as my “smart tv” as well as my personal laptop, and my work computer. Considering how I can flow through all those computers from one set of mouse and keyboard without having to physically switch the mouse to use that specific computer is absolutely game changing. I feel like I am using one computer, even though they are all completely seperated.Whenever a product can make someone’s life easier, is when you know you have something truly revolutionary. For work and every day use, this is absolutely the best office keyboard to date.

Logitech, Corsair, and other mainstream and gamer companies charge out the butt for keyboards that are not very good and often completely pants. One of my favorite keyboards was only $35.

It’s weird cause the MX keyboard was more expensive but this one is in a whole other level.
