Unanimous consensus · 11 sources

Factory-lubed NX Snow switches give this keyboard a out-of-the-box feel that most boards charge extra for. Across 11 sources, the typing experience drew near-universal praise.

In-Depth Analysis

Typing & Switch Feel

Unanimous consensus · 11 sources
100 / 100

Pre-lubed switches are usually an aftermarket upgrade. Asus ships them that way, and reviewers noticed. PCWorld, Digital Trends, and MMORPG all called out the NX Snow switches specifically, with Digital Trends saying they 'feel fantastic.' The quiet, linear action satisfies both typists and gamers, with PC Gamer confirming responsive, quiet operation and Thomas Tech pointing to ultra-fast actuation for competitive play. Two sources flagged the keyboard as genuinely comfortable for extended sessions, which matters more than most spec sheets admit. If you're used to scratchy stock switches, this will feel like a meaningful step up without touching a switch puller.

Hot-Swap Customization

Unanimous consensus · 7 sources
98 / 100

Hot-swappable PCBs used to be enthusiast-tier. At this price point, it's becoming expected, and the Scope II 96 delivers it cleanly. Tom's Hardware, Tom's Guide, Digital Citizen, and PCMag all called it out, with PCMag noting it 'caters to keyboard enthusiasts.' Combined with the pre-lubed switches, the keyboard ships ready to use but also ready to be modified without soldering. That's a rare combination at $180. If you ever want to swap to clicky or tactile switches down the line, you won't need any tools beyond a switch puller.

Wireless performance and battery life are genuinely class-leading here. If cutting the cord matters, this is one of the stronger options at this price.

In-Depth Analysis

Wireless Performance & Battery

Unanimous consensus · 6 sources
96 / 100

1,500 hours is a number that stands out. Tom's Hardware confirmed it directly, and Tom's Guide called battery life 'superb.' Tri-mode connectivity, 2.4GHz, Bluetooth, and USB-C wired, gives this keyboard genuine flexibility across setups. PCWorld flagged the USB-C cable for both operation and charging, and Review Central noted a magnetic charging station as a convenience bonus. For competitive players, the 2.4GHz connection handles latency. For desk-sharing or multi-device use, Bluetooth covers it. At this battery life, you're charging this keyboard a few times a year at most.

Sound Dampening 94

Unanimous consensus · 5 sources

Silicon foam and dampening switch pads make this one of the quieter gaming keyboards at this price. Four of five sources confirmed the sound profile.

Key Takeaway

If you need a quiet keyboard for shared spaces or late-night sessions, the sound dampening here is among the best in its class.

In-Depth Analysis

Sound Dampening

Unanimous consensus · 5 sources
94 / 100

The NX Snow switches are already quiet by design. Asus layers silicon foam and switch dampening pads on top of that, and the result is a keyboard that four sources described as genuinely silent in operation. MMORPG called it 'a clean sound signature,' and Digital Citizen confirmed 'silent operation due to sound-dampening tech.' Reviewsinside specifically flagged it as suitable for work environments, which is a practical endorsement beyond gaming. Combined with the pre-lubed switches, the acoustic profile here is unusually refined for a gaming keyboard. Office-friendly without sacrificing gaming performance.

Build Quality 89

Strong consensus · 9 sources

Eight of nine sources agreed on sturdy, premium construction. The one consistent knock is the stock keycaps, which Digital Trends said don't look or feel great.

Key Takeaway

The chassis and wrist rest justify the premium price. Plan to replace the keycaps if you care about how the board looks.

In-Depth Analysis

Build Quality

Strong consensus · 9 sources
89 / 100

The aluminum alloy top plate earns its praise across the board. Tom's Guide called it 'robust construction with a premium feel,' and Digital Trends said it raises the bar for $180 mechanical gaming keyboards. The included magnetic wrist rest gets consistent mentions from four sources as a genuine comfort addition, not just a box-check accessory. The weak point is the keycaps. Digital Trends specifically flagged them as a visual and tactile disappointment, which is a real gap at this price. Budget for a keycap set if aesthetics matter to you.

Where Reviewers Disagree

Build quality is nearly universally praised, but Digital Trends flagged the stock keycaps as a weak point that undercuts the premium feel.

Keyboard Layout 85

Divided consensus · 10 sources

The 96% layout is the keyboard's most divisive feature. Five sources praised the space-efficient numpad retention, but three called it cramped or awkward.

Key Takeaway

If you need a numpad but want a smaller footprint, this works. If you're sensitive to cramped key spacing, the 96% form factor may frustrate you.

In-Depth Analysis

Keyboard Layout

Divided consensus · 10 sources
85 / 100

Fitting a numpad into a compact footprint is a real engineering trade-off, and reviewers split on whether Asus landed it. PCMag and MMORPG liked the full-size key feel in a smaller package, and PC Gamer appreciated keeping the numpad without the desk real estate. But Tom's Guide called the layout 'awkward' and Tom's Hardware went with 'cramped,' which is a meaningful complaint for anyone who types for hours. The MMO crowd gets a specific shoutout from Review Central for the button density. This is a layout you should try before committing, or at minimum map out on your desk.

Where Reviewers Disagree

Five sources praised the compact numpad design as a smart compromise, while three reviewers found the 96% layout cramped or awkward in practice.

RGB Lighting 82

Strong consensus · 5 sources

Per-key RGB is fully customizable, but two sources independently flagged it as dim compared to competing keyboards.

Key Takeaway

RGB customization is solid, but if vivid lighting is a priority, two sources agree this keyboard falls short of brighter competitors.

In-Depth Analysis

RGB Lighting

Strong consensus · 5 sources
82 / 100

All five sources confirmed per-key RGB with full customization through Armoury Crate. The feature is there. The brightness is the issue. Both Digital Citizen and PCMag called the lighting dim relative to other keyboards, which is a specific and consistent complaint, not a one-off. For a gaming keyboard at $180, dim RGB is a real gap, especially if your setup leans on lighting as a visual centerpiece. If you run RGB at low brightness or primarily use it for functional indicators, it won't bother you. If you want a light show, this probably undershoots.

Where Reviewers Disagree

All sources confirm per-key RGB customization, but two independently noted the brightness is noticeably dim compared to other keyboards in this category.

Software Experience 48

Unanimous consensus · 7 sources

ROG Armoury Crate is the keyboard's clearest weak point. Six of seven sources flagged it, with Tom's Hardware calling it 'annoying' and Tom's Guide going with 'janky.'

Key Takeaway

The keyboard's hardware is excellent. Go in knowing the software experience will frustrate you, especially if you want deep programmability.

In-Depth Analysis

Software Experience

Unanimous consensus · 7 sources
48 / 100

The hardware earns high marks. The software does not. Six sources raised Armoury Crate as a problem, which is about as close to consensus as review data gets. Tom's Hardware called it 'annoying,' Tom's Guide said 'janky,' and the complaints aren't cosmetic. Tom's Hardware also noted only one layer of programmability, which limits macro and remapping depth for power users. The customization features themselves, RGB control, macros, key remapping, are capable on paper. Getting to them through Armoury Crate is the friction. This is a known Asus software problem across their product line, not a one-off.

Where Reviewers Disagree

The customization features are genuinely useful, but six sources agree that Armoury Crate makes accessing them more painful than it should be.

What Reviewers Say

"Armoury Crate app is sluggish and prone to bugs"

"Sluggish Asus ROG Armoury Crate software"

"Janky companion software"

The Asus ROG Strix Scope II 96 Wireless is a well-rounded keyboard that excels in typing feel and build quality. It's best for gamers and typists who value a compact form factor without sacrificing key size and who appreciate silent operation. However, if you're after the brightest RGB lighting or are budget-conscious, this might not be the keyboard for you.

Best keyboard on the market, hands down.

Amir Hasani May 5, 2024
I rarely write any long reviews but this keyboard deserves a standing ovation!Initial Impressions:Upon unboxing the ASUS ROG Strix Scope II Keyboard, I was immediately struck by its sleek design and the quality of materials used. The keyboard feels substantial, and the matte finish combined with the striking RGB backlighting promised a blend of aesthetics and functionality. The setup was straightforward, connecting flawlessly to my gaming rig with minimal effort.Build Quality & Design:The durability of the Strix Scope II is evident from its solid aluminum frame which provides stability and a premium touch. The RGB lighting is brilliantly executed, offering a spectrum of colors that are both vibrant and customizable through an intuitive software interface.Key Performance:The mechanical switches under each key are a highlight, providing that perfect tactile feedback without the loud clicking noise often associated with gaming keyboards. This makes the keyboard suitable for both gaming marathons and quiet night sessions.Wireless Connectivity:The wireless functionality is flawless. You can choose between Bluetooth or a 2.4GHz wireless connection, and I’ve experienced no lag or disconnections during gameplay.Battery Life:Battery endurance is stellar. With extensive daily use, I find myself only needing to charge the keyboard infrequently, which is a significant improvement over other models I’ve used in the past.Extra Features:The inclusion of a Stealth key is ingenious, allowing for instant privacy and focus by hiding all apps and muting audio with a single press. The extended Ctrl key also proves to be extremely useful, enhancing comfort and functionality in games requiring extensive use of control commands.Final Thoughts:This keyboard exceeds expectations in every aspect, from its aesthetic design to its peerless performance. It’s a perfect 5 out of 5 stars from me, for transforming my gaming and daily typing into a more delightful experience. Worth every penny!

Great product. Definitely worth the money

Josh September 9, 2025
I’ve been using the ROG Strix Scope II 96 for a couple weeks now, and it’s quickly become my favorite keyboard. The 96% layout is perfect — you get the number pad, arrow keys, and function row without taking up too much desk space. It’s a great balance between compact and functional. The stock switches (I’m using the NX Snow) feel super smooth and sound great right out of the box. They’re pre-lubed and honestly feel better than some higher-end customs I’ve tried. The stabilizers are also really well done — no rattling on the spacebar or enter key.Wireless connection has been rock solid via the dongle, and battery life has been surprisingly good even with the RGB on. You can also switch to Bluetooth or wired mode easily, which is super handy if you’re using it across multiple devices.Build quality feels premium — solid chassis, smooth keycaps, and nice weight to it. The sound-dampening foam inside really cuts down on ping and gives it a nice thocky sound profile.Only downside? The Armoury Crate software is kind of clunky, but once you set your lighting and macros, you don’t really need to touch it again.Highly recommend if you want a high-end gaming keyboard that’s compact, wireless, and ready to go out of the box. It’s not cheap, but you’re definitely getting what you pay for.

Excellent Keyboard! Very high quality and attention to detail!

D T December 6, 2025
I wanted a keyboard that had BT, RF and wired connectivity, and backlight with long battery life. on paper this keyboard met that criteria. I had a Logitech G515 and was not impressed on first opening. it had a laughable battery life, and you cannot change anything (lights, etc) without logitechs software, and you can’t read the keys without the light on! Coming from the logitech, when i opened the package of the Asus ROG Strix Scope II keyboard, my only words were WOW! Packaging was excellent and top notch, the keyboard was firm, keys sounded great and the lighting is amazing! It is also a fully size keyboard (keys) in a 96% footprint! The sound of the keys are muffled but very pleasant and great feel. the function combination of the keys is very easy and the keys are very easy to read. (Even with the LEDs off! lol) You can easily change the colors and functions on this keyboard without the software which is exactly what i was looking for. if you use the software you can do even more! All around this keyboard is fantastic, and it puts the logitech keyboard to shame at about the same price. Too soon to tell on the battery life but on paper it is 1500 hours. (the logitech is 36! lmao) I am very happy I got this keyboard and highly recommend this keyboard if you are considering a wireless option for games or office!

Review of the ROG Strix Scope 96 – 6 Months In

Michel April 24, 2025
What I Love:I’ve been using the ROG Strix Scope II 96 Full Size since October/November 2024, and after six months, I can confidently say this keyboard is top tier in terms of build quality. Every keystroke feels super satisfying—the clickiness is just right, and I can actually feel the difference in pressure when gaming, which is a huge plus. It’s also my daily driver for work. The ability to seamlessly switch between Bluetooth and wired mode with the small toggle switch in the back is super convenient. Battery life? No complaints—easily lasts a full 8-hour workday without breaking a sweat. What I Dislike:If you’ve used any ASUS gear before, you already know the struggle that is Armoury Crate. It’s honestly a bit of a nightmare. That said, I do appreciate that for this keyboard, ASUS offers just the AC module directly from their site—way better than having to deal with the full software suite.Overall Opinion:Despite the software headache, this keyboard delivers where it really matters. Solid build, amazing typing and gaming feel, great battery—would definitely recommend!

Muy Satisfecho con el teclado

Tony C March 12, 2024
Saludos.

Sensational Keyboard

Amazon Customer January 16, 2026
This is easily the best keyboard I’ve ever typed on. It feels so fluid and clean you can confidently type without looking at it. The colors are nice and vibrant but if you want more than Asus’ Aura Sync download Signal RGB. It has waaay more customization options. (You will need to use the wired connection for it). Its pretty much a full keyboard in the compact size of a regular one. It’s also quiet to use, typing is not obnoxiously loud or distracting.Highly recommend!Highly recommend for anyone looking!

Amazing keyboard

erwin kamal January 22, 2026
Fast wireless keyboard. Bluetooth can connect to 3 different laptops using selector, with many functional shortcut and customizable. RGB can sync with other peripherals. Long battery life. quite a creamy sound for me.
